On November 22 Brockport’s Words on the Verge Literary Reading Series will host local writer Nina Alvarez. Alvarez will read from 5pm until 7pm. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. This event and all Words on the Verge events take place at A Different Path Art Gallery in Brockport (27 Market St, Brockport, NY 14420, 637-5494).
Nina Alvarez's short fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and cross-genre work have been published in Prick of the Spindle (forthcoming), Danse Macabre, Electric Velocipede, Grasslimb, 21 Stars Review, and other online and print journals. Her play "The Life of Leo Wool" was produced by the Greater Rochester Repertory Company in 2013. She has been awarded a residency at Vermont Studio Center, been featured reader at the Naples Land Trust Festival, and won the University at Albany Shields McIlwaine award for best poem. Nina earned her master's degree in English from the University at Albany where she studied creative writing with Douglas Glover and literary theory with Pierre Joris. She has been publisher of Inconundrum Press, Follow Your Bliss magazine, and Canvas Teen Literary Journal. She is currently a teaching artist with Writers & Books in Rochester, New York. Her business Dream Your Book offers editing, self-publishing, book proposal, and coaching services to aspiring authors.
Gallery owner and artist, Katherine Weston, first began hosting readings at A Different Path in August of 2010 in conjunction with the opening of the gallery. The November exhibit will Feature work by Jappie King Black.
