Youngblood received an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A former assistant professor of creative writing at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, she has lectured at Mississippi State University, UNC-Greensboro, and the University of Ghana at Legon. She began her undergraduate degree at Morris Brown College and completed her bachelor's at Georgia State University. After graduation, she served as a columnist and assistant editor for Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine. View this email in your browser Words on the Verge  We had a great turnout on February 24th for our Open Mic! Thanks for sharing your work with Words on the Verge. The Straw Mat Writers read on April 28th   Straw Mat is a group of four English Professors who challenge and inspire each other to write and to workshop original works that will ultimately compete in the public space of the publishing world. Their works, as varied as their membership, include poetry, non-fiction, fiction, art profiles, literary criticism, and drama. As a group, they have won numerous awards, including two pushcart nominations and a notable mention in the Best Essays. They have published nationally and internationally in academic and literary journals and anthologies such as The Atlantic, The Chattahoochee Review, American Transcendental Quarterly, Arts and Letters, and Feminist Formations. Fall 2017 Preview

Words on the Verge Returns  September 30th  Words on the Verge is pleased to announce that our first feature for the 2017-2018 season is Kristen Gentry. Join us at 5pm on September 30th, 2017 at  Different Path Gallery,  27 Market St., Brockport, NY 14420. Kristen Gentry is from Louisville, Kentucky and received her MFA from Indiana University. She currently lives in Rochester, NY near SUNY Geneseo where she is an associate professor of English and the director of creative writing. She is also a member of We All Write, a black women’s writing collective. Her short stories have appeared in  Crab Orchard Review, Jabberwock Review,  and other journals. She is at work completing  Mama Said,  a collection of linked stories that explore mother-daughter relationships strained by the mothers’ drug addictions.
